Enjoy a romantic getaway at Ferndale's Shaw House Inn, an enchanting Victorian bed and breakfast considered by many to be the best over-all accommodations in Humboldt County. We're also a great location for small retreats, seminars, weddings and other family celebrations. Built more than a century ago in 1854 by the city founder for his bride, the Shaw House Inn was the first post office and courthouse. It is now the oldest structure in Ferndale and the oldest B&B in California. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and modeled after Hawthorn's famous house of seven gables, this Carpenter Gothic Revival is a rare find with its jutting gables, balconies, and bay windows. Come stroll through our one-acre cottage garden which surrounds this beautiful home in a timeless park setting. Over twenty-five varieties of mature trees, including Redwoods, Dogwoods, Willows, Walnuts, Maples, fruit trees and our most impressive, the ancient California Buckeye, make this the city's largest landscape. Your comfort is assured in eight relaxing guest rooms, each with a private bath and a unique collection of antiques. Three rooms feature private balconies, perfect for watching the sun rise or set. The Farmhouse is home to owners Peter & Sharmon Kenyon who operate a farm-oreinted bed and breakfast inn. Our 1900-era house was renovated completely in 2003 to provide guests an escape from modern life. Relax in clean, comfortable rooms decorated in Mission style. No Victoriana on display, but we do have a guest sitting room/library and a collection of landscape prints by local artists. Lionel is our butler and you'll have to visit to make his acquaintance. All four guest rooms are on the second floor (20 steps).
